The Swedish Government is preparing to expand its existing gambling credit restrictions with new legislation that would outlaw nearly all forms of credit-financed betting. This proposal, outlined in a bill titled Ett nytt förbud mot spel på kredit, is part of a broader initiative to promote a safer and more sustainable gambling market in the country.
While Sweden already enforces a credit ban through its Gambling Act, the current framework is limited. It only prohibits operators and gambling agents from offering direct credit at the point of sale. This leaves open the possibility for players to use external lines of credit or credit cards for gambling, as long as the credit is not issued by the operator itself.
